Indian markets are likely to open flat tracking global indices and SGX Nifty.

The US stocks showed a substantial move back to the downside during trading on Thursday. The major averages all moved sharply lower with the techheavy Nasdaq showing a particularly steep drop. The Dow tumbled 2.8 percent to 28292 and the Nasdaq plummeted 5 percent to 11458.

UK stocks rose on Thursday after a closelywatched survey showed the countrys services sector experienced its sharpest rise in business activity in more than five years in August. Therefore FTSE 100 was down by 1.6 percent to 5850.

On domestic front Indian shares ended Thursdays session marginally lower after trading in a rangebound manner for most part of the day amid the expiry of weekly index future and option contracts. The benchmark BSE Sensex was down by 0.2 percent to 38990.
