ABB India Celebrates 100-Year Milestone with MCB Innovation

ABB India Ltd announced on May 7, 2024, that the company’s first-of-its-kind Miniature Circuit Breaker (MCB) touched a milestone 100-year anniversary of protecting electrical circuits while evolving to meet the sustainability needs of the future.

MCB has changed our everyday lives by providing safety for both commercial and residential buildings, reducing the risk of unforeseen incidents.

The company stated that its implementation has revolutionised home safety and extended electrical safety across society as a whole. ABB’s MCBs are applied across all segments and help protect particularly vulnerable spaces, which include data centres, factories, homes, transport infrastructure, commercial spaces, and more, from electrical hazards.

ABB has been manufacturing these MCBs in India since 2001 in its Industry 4.0 Nelamangala factory. MCBs swiftly identify electrical faults like overcurrents (short circuits and overloads), disconnecting circuits within 10 milliseconds, 10 times faster than a blink. As we move towards net zero, greater electrification and renewable integration demand enhanced protection. ABB’s MCBs manage larger loads, fluctuating power supply, and diverse demands, ensuring safety for everything from heat pumps, electric vehicles and solar panels and guards against residual currents, earth fault currents, surges and arc faults.
