About United Breweries
History of United Breweries Limited
Incorporated in 1999, United Breweries Limited is involved in the manufacturing and supplying of beer and non-alcoholic beverages in India and other countries.
In 1915, United Breweries (UB) forayed into brewing with 5 breweries in South India. In 1944, their first bottled beer was completed under Exports Beer. In 1960, Kalyani Breweries was set up in Kalyani, West Bengal, in 1965, Kesarwal Beverages was established in Goa and in 1972, High Range Breweries was set up in Kerala. In 1974, they started exporting to Aden and the Middle East. In 1978, Punjab Breweries was set in Punjab, and in the same year, Kingfisher Premium was launched. Later, in 1982, Kingfisher Lager was launched in the USA and the UK.
Between 1993 and 1994, all 5 breweries, including Premier Breweries, got amalgamated into United Breweries. In 2005, UB entered into a strategic partnership with Scottish & Newcastle, where they acquired equity shares of UB and became an equal promoter. After 4 years, i.e., in 2009, Heineken NV acquired control over Scottish & Newcastle and became UB’s promoter.
Since 2010, several breweries, such as MAPL and four breweries of MAPL subsidiaries, Associated Breweries, UB Nizam Breweries, UB Ajanta Breweries, Chennai Breweries and Scottish & Newcastle India have amalgamated into United Breweries Limited.
Since 2012, Heineken has been brewed by UB in India. Meanwhile, they have launched several Kingfisher beverages, such as Kingfisher Premium, Kingfisher Blue, Kingfisher Storm, etc.
As of March 2023, United Breweries Limited has 21 manufacturing plants in India, with 48 offices located across the country. Their manufacturing units are located in various regions, such as Ludhiana, Haryana, Rajasthan, Bihar, West Bengal, Khudra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Goa, Mysore, Mangalore, Kerala, Maharashtra, etc. They have 5 licensing manufacturing units located outside India in regions such as Nepal, the UK, Singapore, New Zealand and Australia.
