About Fertilizers & Chemicals Travancore

History

The Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore Ltd. (FACT) was incorporated in 1943 alongside the launch of its fertiliser plant in India at Udyogamandal. In 1947, the company began the production of Ammonium Sulphate at Udyogamandal, near Cochin. In the year 1960, it became a State PSU of Kerala, and on August 15, 1962, the Government of India became its major shareholder.

FACT Engineering Works was established on April 13, 1966, as a unit to fabricate and install equipment for fertiliser plants. To diversify beyond fertilisers, a Caprolactam Plant at Udyogamandal was commissioned in 1990. In FY 1998-99, the company took up various new projects like conversion of the control system, revamping 3 boilers of the Cochin division thermal plant, replacement of the carbonate pumps, high-pressure valves in the urea plant, etc.

During the year 2017-18, FACT Engineering Works (FEW) commissioned the operation of a barge for transportation of Ammonia. In FY 2020-21, it started trading chemicals like Ammonia and Sulphuric Acid. The company has adopted coastal shipping as its latest mode of transport for fertilisers being sent to the eastern and western coasts of the country. In recent times, it also started power trading through the Indian Electricity Exchange (IEX). It has also completed the trial run of its plant at Caprolactam.
