About ICICI Securities

History

ICICI Securities was established in 1995 as a comprehensive financial marketplace. Since then, it has evolved into a multifaceted provider of financial services, encompassing investing, trading, private wealth management, mutual funds, insurance, and loans. The company has introduced many novel initiatives throughout its journey, including online trading platforms, margin lending, and research services. In April 2014, ICICI Securities embarked on its public journey through an initial public offering IPO. 

A pivotal milestone in ICICI Securities’ trajectory was its foray into online trading in 2000. This initiative revolutionised how retail investors accessed the stock market, making it more accessible and affordable. In the next 5 years, the company launched an online mutual funds platform, derivatives trading platform, Direct Link and Buy Today, Sell Tomorrow’, Government of India Bonds, etc. In 2005, the company expanded through ICICIdirect branches. In 2006, the company also started distributing health and life insurance products. The company further strengthened its online presence by launching its website in 2002 and its mobile trading app in 2010.

In 2007, the company launched its overseas trading services. On March 26, 2007, the company’s name was changed to ‘ICICI Securities Limited’. In 2008, it launched its private wealth management arm to cater to high-net-worth individuals (HNWIs) and ultra-high-net-worth individuals (UHNIs). In 2010, the company launched the online National Pension System facility, SIP in equity and F&O@FingerTips’ on the ICICIdirect platform.

In 2017, the company launched AIF investment on a private placement basis on the ICICIdirect platform, along with a margin trading facility, funding of employee stock option schemes, factor-based portfolios, overseas trading facility and multi-price orders in the equity segment. In 2023, ICICI Securities launched its new PMS portfolio named ‘Sterling’. It also launched LIFEY as a digital assistant to help investors select investment options.

The company operates in the following business segments:

  1. Treasury Income – Income in this segment comes from treasury, investment income 
  2. Broking & distribution – This involves broking and other related activities, distribution of third-party products like Mutual Funds, Life Insurance, etc. and sales credit for referred business and interest earned on funds used in the brokerage business. 
  3. Issuer services and advisory – This includes financial advisory services such as equity-debt issue management services, merger and acquisition advice and other related activities.

Subsidiaries

The company has a wholly-owned subsidiary named ICICI Securities Holdings, Inc. that conducts its operations in the US.

Mr. Vinod Kumar Dhall, Chairman

A former officer in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), he served as Secretary Ministry of Corporate Affairs, where he helped the enactment of the Competition Act and enhanced corporate insolvency and governance provisions. He also helped set up the Serious Frauds Investigation Office and also initiated the pioneering E-governance project MCA21. He has a long experience in economic and industrial matters as a member of SEBI.
