About Atul

History of Atul Limited

Founded in 1947, Atul Limited is a diversified company involved in Research and Development (R&D), procurement, technology, manufacturing, marketing and sales of life science chemicals, performance and other chemicals and products. They serve a wide range of industries, such as agriculture, automobile, construction, glass, fragrance, home care, handicraft, pharmaceutical, soap and detergent, plastic, textile, rubber and many more. The company is a part of Lalbhai Group.

In 1947, the company was established as a joint venture with an American company, Cyanamid India Ltd, to produce crop protection chemicals and pharmaceuticals. From 1952 to 1971, the company entered several joint ventures to produce textile dyestuffs, crop care chemicals, epoxy resins and curing agents. During this period, the company started the manufacture of dyes and Phosgene for the first time in India. In 1978, the company released its IPO and got listed on the stock exchanges.

The company expanded its product range, and in the period 1992 to 2011, they entered international markets by forming Atul USA Inc., Atul Europe Ltd and Atul China Ltd. In 2015, the company built a 6,500-kilolitre reservoir for rainwater harvesting.

As of March 2023, the company manufactures 900 products and 400 formulations, serving about 4,000 customers in 29 states in India and 83 countries worldwide. The company owns 140 brands. Atul Limited has a huge network of 38,000 retail outlets in the country.

  • Aromatics: Under this segment, the company manufactures para Cresol, para Anisic aldehyde and para Anisic alcohol. They are known as the world’s largest manufacturer of these products. They are supplied to personal care and other related industries.
  • Bulk Chemicals and Intermediates: Under this segment, the company aims to supply bulk chemicals and other intermediates to industries. Atul Limited is the integrated manufacturer of Resorcinol and Resorcinol formaldehyde resin.
  • Colours: Under this, the company supplies different colourants to various industries, including Electrical and Electronics, Dyestuff, Food, Paint and Coatings, Packaging, Paper, Pharmaceutical, Personal Care and Textile.
  • Crop Protection – Bulk Actives: In this segment, the company provides crop protection products, such as insecticides, fungicides and herbicides.
  • Crop Protection – Retail: Under this category, the company provides various crop care solutions for crops, including paddy, cotton, pulses, wheat, sugarcane and several vegetables and fruits.
  • Floras: In this segment, they offer high-quality tissue culture-raised planting material.
  • Pharmaceuticals: Under this category, the company supplies API intermediates to pharma industries.
  • Polymers – Performance Materials: In this segment, the company offers several polymers, such as resins, reactive diluents and curing agents. These are supplied to Construction, Electrical and Electronics, Paint, etc., industries. These products are supplied under their brand name, Lapox.
  • Polymers – Retail: Under this, the company manufactures and supplies epoxy resins in India.
