Technical & Derivatives Report
February 16, 2017
Sensex (28156) / Nifty (8725)
Exhibit 1: Nifty Daily Chart
Finally, after five days of boredom we saw some action in our
market, however, unfortunately, it was not so encouraging for the
bulls. The index opened with minor downside gap and remained
under pressure throughout the remaining part of the day to post
the weak session with a loss of 0.77% over its previous day’s
close.
After showing a tremendous resilience for last five days around
8800; the bulls finally gave up and as a result, we saw strong
broad base selling in the market. As a result, the Nifty closed
below the ‘5 day EMA’ for the first time in last few weeks.
However, with reference to our earlier articles, we still do not want
to get carried away by this pessimism. The higher degree uptrend
remains bullish and hence, we would interpret this as a pull back
or corrective phase. The Nifty has now closed tad above our
mentioned support of 8715 and going forward, we expect buying
emerging at lower levels. The next support after 8715 would be
seen at 8670 and hence, traders are advised not to create fresh
short positions at current level. Rather use this dips to create fresh
longs in the market. On the upside, 8754 - 8784 are seen as
immediate resistance zone. It’s advisable to keep following stock
centric approach in order to fetch decent returns.
Key Levels
Support 1 - 8715
Resistance 1 - 8754
Support 2 - 8670
Resistance 2 - 8784
Nifty Bank Outlook - (20258)
Exhibit 2: Nifty Bank Daily Chart
Although the Nifty Bank index traded in a narrow range
yesterday, the overall negative market breadth clearly indicates
the selling pressure amongst the non-index heavyweights.
On the Nifty Bank index front, the consolidation phase still
continues as the index heavyweights traded range-bound. The
short-term support for the Nifty Bank index is placed around
20000 which traders need to keep an eye on. Only if the index
manages to sustain below this support, the corrective move in the
index could get extended further upto 19800. However, the
ongoing phase is still a corrective move post a rally of 2850
points in just 30 trading sessions. Traders are advised to trade on
stock specific moves with proper risk management. The near term
supports for the Nifty Bank index are placed around 20000 and
19800 whereas resistances are seen around 20370 and 20465.
Key Levels
Support 1 - 20000
Resistance 1 - 20370
Support 2 - 19800
Resistance 2 - 20465
