An Overview of HDFC Q1
On Saturday, HDFC Bank reported a 16.1% increase in standalone net profit to Rs. 7,729.60 crores, up from Rs. 6,658,60 crores in the same quarter last year. The earnings number fell short of investors’ expectations.
The second wave of pandemic disrupted business operations for about two-thirds of the quarter, resulting in worse collection efficiency and higher provisions, according to the private bank.
The bank said in a BSE filing that net interest income (NII) for the quarter increased to Rs. 17,009 crores from Rs. 15,665.70 crores a year ago, owing to a 14.4% increase in advances and a core net interest margin of 4.1 percent.
The bank stated that it made provisions totaling Rs. 4,830.8 crores in the quarter, up from Rs. 3,891.5 crores in the previous quarter and Rs. 4,694 crores in March. Specific loan loss provisions of Rs. 4,219.70 crores and general and other provisions of Rs. 611.10 crores were among the provisions and contingencies for the quarter.

The gross non-performing asset (NPA) rate was 1.47 percent in the March quarter, up from 1.32 percent in the previous quarter and 1.36 percent a year ago.
